2N2613 alternative

Anyone know a close alternative for ge 2N2613 transistors? Putting together a selmer buzztone and small bear doesn't stock them. Thinking of using a few 2N404s or maybe some transistors in the fz1 category since the hfe in most of them is in the lower region i need plus the fz1 schematic is somewhat similar to the buzztone. I'm open to try out and socket any ge transistors i can get from small bear.

I don't think you want to fool with Si devices without a full re-design and re-tweak.

Note that it runs on THREE Volts, not 9V. This matters.

I don't see that it is fussy. Any PNP Ge with hFE from 30 to 150 should bias-up as good as the originals. (Which were probably all over the place bias-wise). SmallBear has loads of them. 2N404 is not a bad choice.

The Buzztone is not one of the circuits that depends on transistor leakage for bias current. Try a bag of remainders:

Il definitely be picking up some 2n404s and socket them just incase i don't like them. Wouldn't hurt to get a bag of extras to test!

As for powering il be using a regulator+inverter circuit so i can daisy chain it with other negative ground pedals. Very exited for this build! Figured i might as well stick to the Pink Floyd theme and get parts to build a big muff along with with it. Kit Rae has a schematic iv'e been meaning to build for a while now.

I've built several, they are not that fussy, a variety of gains is more useful than specific transistors I think. I used a trim on the base of Q1 to dial in bias. Its a nice little circuit.
