Um, why is the guy putting DC power onto an out? Notice R3. I could understand it going from hot to ground but taking it to the power rail and basically putting DC into the headphones seems a bit silly so he may have overlooked something... or I just don't get it.

Looking at the schematic, it looks like the author accidentally connected R3 to the wrong output. If you instead put R3 between Q2's base and the other 'out' (the smoothed power rail), then there isn't any DC on the output. Amplifiers of this sort have R2 to V+ anyways, so unless he's trying something tricky and unusual, it should be changed.
