Not sure whether to reply here or there.  I'll pick here.  Did you end up sanding down the LEDs and mounting them behind the label like you originally planned?  Hard to tell from the pic.  Very trippy.

Yes Eric I sanded the tops of the leds flat. They're behind a transparent label this time.
I normally use white labels but my stock has depleted, they're on back order.
It's the prototype so I'll keep it.

Quite OT, but I actually have something like this on my drawing board.  Picture a cross-fader mixing two (or more) effect loops based on the output of an envelope follower with a really slow attack and decay.  As you play more aggressively, it shifts smoothly toward the next loop.  Ease up, and it smoothly shifts back.   . I may end up adding a bit of automatic level control so you can shift it upward without necessarily making it louder.
