Alpha pots in Canada?

Mouser does ship internationally, but I believe they insist on using couriers for that. The resulting Customs brokerage fees can make shipping very costly. Also compare pricing; for the Alpha types I carry, I generally beat them substantially.

I wouldn't recommend Mouser unless you like paying alot for shipping / customs brokerage.  Basically, that goes for any place that ships using UPS - really expensive.  

Do a search - there's other options.  I like Futurlec for resistors, caps, ICs etc. and cheap pots (I haven't come across a bad pot yet).  Other people use Digikey.  Smallbear is great.

You can order from Mouser but they and Customs will probably rape you in charges. Digikey has some pots but no Alphas. If you specifically need Alphas then Smallbear is a good choice IMHO.

creatron inc. here in toronto has alpha pot for 70 cents each.

Update on prices in Canada (Toronto). Creatron is up to $3.30 for 24mm Alpha pots, though they still have a 17mm Generic for $1.10 (which must really be the 16mm). The best prices around town are either at A1 in Etobicoke or at Sayal. A1 mainly has generics for $1 to $1.25 each. Sayal has more choice but doesn't post prices online.

I've had great customer service, decent (USPS) shipping rates, and delivery in under 2 weeks from MammothElectronics.com. Prices are around $1 USD for their 16mm Alpha pots, and their Mammoth-brand generics are all about $0.55. Shipping seems to start at $15 so if you're buying a bit of quantity, it's cheaper than local even when exchange rates are steep.

Example: 40 Alphas are about $40 USD, plus $15 shipping is ~$55 USD, which works out to $75 CAD. Mouser's price is $2 CAD when ordering 25+, so 40 would come to $80 plus shipping, which is free on orders $100. In a nutshell, it's always cheaper to buy from Mammoth than big shops like Mouser, Digikey, or Arrow.

Small Bear Electronics is competitive with Mammoth and also a great company. Their articles and presence in these forums are a big help to the DIY community, and appreciating that is as simple as placing an order. Shipping for the same bundle is calculated at $18.50, so the final price is within a couple bucks of Mammoth.

These guys don't have nearly the inventory that either Smallbear or MOuser do, but they are cheap, in Canada (Niagara Falls) and pretty darn fast.

PEC pots, long and short shaft models can be purchased from ABRA Electronics in Montreal. They only carry linear tapers, are excellent pots, but other than expression or some wah pedal use (or variable speed motor drive speed control), are total overkill for pedals. They are military grade, 2 watt capacity, sealed stainless steel, and as such carry fairly hefty unit price. Also, ABRA has a high minimum order of $50.

I have the luxury of living about 40 minutes away, so I whenever I find myself in the area, I drop in to pick up a few things, or just snoop around.

Electrosonic used to show them in their catalog. You could try contacting PEC themselves but i've just bought them from Digikey, i consider them my neighbourhood convenience electronics store, $8 overnight shipping to Canada last time i bought, been  awhile.

Another place to consider for Alpha pots is nextgenguitars.ca based out of Ottawa. I ordered a bunch of fretwire and tuners from them a few months ago and shipping was pretty reasonable (I think I paid $8 for Canada Post). If you're in the Ottawa area you can go to the warehouse and pick-up your order to avoid shipping charges.
