Diode bridge compressor schematics?

Hi there,

I was wondering, is there any diode bridge compressor design for Guitar/Bass floating around, commercial or otherwise? Could not find any. For studio compressors, diode bridge designs have the drawback of (too much) coloring and distorting the signal, limiting their usefulness to relatively specific tasks. But for an instrument compressor, I would imagine that audible distortion need not be a bad thing for a compressor. I have been thinking about a very dirty bass compressor for a while and have been messing around with several different approaches. Even vactrol compressors ca get quite dirty, if you make them accordingly. But I wonder why I have never seen that sort of thing done with diode bridges. They are a bit fiddly but what compressor design isn't?

Cheers,
Andy

I second the Reckless Comp recommendation. I built the Rev B -- +9v power, two knobs -- and it is now a permanent part of my board. Great sound, no pumping or seasickness, very low noise, great for cleans or in front of OD. Rev A uses bipolar power by way of a charge pump and has more control.
