1.What does it do, not do, and sound like?
Gain knob only works 1-2(Quiet sound) and 8-10(Loud sound) Has no sound in the middle. Audio comes out with alot of popping over it. Used audio probe on pin 1,2,3 of IC 1 and audio is present on pin 1,2 and 3 the lower the pin the worse audio sounds.

I'm not a Klon expert, but I personally believe the buffered bypass to be part of the magic of this circuit, as well as the clipping diodes which were certainly hand carved from the horn of a black unicorn and then sprinkled with pixie farts.  The point being this circuit has so much magic and legend surrounding it I think it's impossible for anyone to agree on.  I got a bad batch of 7660's, and they squeal so mine languishes uncompleted though I really like the sound other than the squeal.  I can't remember who exactly wrote it, but someone did a little piece arguing that the portion of the circuit that uses the charge pump doesn't really gain anything as far as audio by running on 18v .. it was pretty interesting. Anyway, try a bunch of Ge diodes and everything else you can think of in those clipping sockets and you may find your own magic.

A layout is good for building, not for thinking about and debugging.

Can anyone confirm/deny the layout is similar to this?
