Echo base + Tremulus Lune LFO

Greetings Comrades.

I set out breadboarding a few circuit combos today with a specific effect in mind but didn't quite achieve it and i'm sure you clever bunch can point me in the right direction.

Basically i have a preset on my memory man with hazarai that is 100% wet delay with a lot of repeats that slowly descend and then ascend in pitch. For reference it's kind of similar to this at 2.15 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hrtct-zdU7Q) but i have it set with a slower delay time on mine so it's not as ring moddy as it sounds in that clip.

I was hoping that by setting up the tremulus lune LFO (http://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/tremulus/tremulusschematic.gif) with a very slow speed and coupling the LED to an LDR controlling the delay time on the Echo Base (http://satcom.tonnarelli.com/files/echo/EchoBase.bmp) I might get somewhere close to what i was after.

It didn't quite work out that way sadly. Seems like i can't get enough repeats out of the pt2399 before it starts feeding back too much and self oscillating. The pitch descent begins as the LED starts to darken which sounds cool but it's not at a steady rate and it doesn't slowly ascend back in pitch as the LED begins to brighten either. I'm starting to think LED/LDRs are not the way to go about this.

SO...my question after all that is what would be a better way to achieve this? I noticed the original Echo Base schematic uses an op amp and transistor for the mod set up so maybe i need to tinker with that...

Recently, i've been experimenting with replacing ldr by transistor. "Demeter trembulator without ldr". There are schematics at post 13. Hope that helps somehow.
