Hey guys,

Hoping this doesn't cause "mass-hysteria" but just noticing a fairly lengthy lead time for the MMBFj201 next run (Nov 2018) and absolutely zero stock from...well, I must have tried another 12 other suppliers with no luck.   I don't think (pray) this is an EOL part so no need to panick at this point.

Anyone know if there is a particular reason for this or just not enough being manufactured to met demand?

Also a word of caution to you for your own personal stock levels of mmbfj201's, could be a long wait before any more show up.

Cheers
Paul

Thanks Paul. Good to see you're still around.

The TO-92 J201's are in stock at Mouser though.

Floor-mat at the front entrance to my former place of employment. Oh... the irony.

I used to really be with it!  That is, until they changed what "it" is.  Now, I can't find it.  And, I'm scared!  --  Homer Simpson's dad

There is a global semiconductor and passives shortage right now:

I thought it was about more sophisticated devices, but maybe it is spilling into simpler stuff as manufacturers get overwhelmed with demand:

Wampler bought them all?

So in a similar vein.. 2N5457's are all but impossible to get too..

What is the going "value/price" of a legit NOS one (not a Chinese copy)?

Luckily, I probably still have 100 of them, and 50 J201's...

Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!

I ordered the 2n5089s before they went end of life.  Anyone can do that, if they have the foresight.  I suppose if i didnt, there would be a few thousand less 2n5089's available.  If everyone orders bulk EOL components before they are discontinued there will be plenty available for years to come...I dont see how this could be a bad thing...

Interesting articles marcelomd thanks for sharing!  Lets hope the shortage doesnt go on till mid 2019 :|

Yes, both RS components and Rapid Electronics in the UK now have a May 2019 lead time on them, this does happen sometimes with components but they are not discontinued as far as I aware. Sometimes you just have to search different suppliers than your usual ones, I just got another 200 to tide me over from bitsbox UK.

Please at least have 1 forum post before sending me a PM demanding something.

There will be some now to last a little while at least, I've put Paul in touch with my supplier who had stock. He's assured me that there I'll be a limit per individual so anyone who may want to build them self a few jfet pedals during the shortage will have the ability to.

I also have a rather large amount in stock myself so it's possible I MIGHT be able to part with a batch when things dry up. That being said basically all of my pedals use fets, so it might be sort of tight but I'll definitely try🙂

I do have access to lots of through hole JFETs ( NPN and PNP ) however ( not j201's but NS to-18 packaged 2N4393 among many others). My cost is $1 CNDa piece plus whatever gas It takes (roughly $15 CND..split up between everyone that should be nothing really ). So perhaps it would be better if I list what I can get and for how much/how many pieces, when Paul has run out I will do that and make 1 trip, buy as many as I'm able to so people have access to authentic fets and are not tempted to completely over pay just to build a fet project
