Hello guys!

I'm planing in buying a V5 Deluxe electric mistress.... I was wondering if it's possible for me to turn it into a V4 just by replacing the 180/2W resistor and the 1N4751A diode for 1N4001 diodes and use 12 or 18V input, since the rest of the schematic is identical. Would it work?

these are the schematics:

Welcome.

The 1N4751A is a Zener 30V voltage-limiting protection diode, NOT a simple rectifier like '4001.

What you ultimately want is a steady +12V power source. If you already have +12V then you do not need the '7812 or the stuff feeding it. If you only have +18V, feed it to the '7812 to trim it down to 12V.

Thank you for your answer!

So, the power will always be trimmed to 12V, on both? So why they sound different and why they changed the power supply from 14V to 24V?

Thanks again

There are odd misteries in electronic...
provided the schematic posted are correct, 2 identical circuits (they both work, or better are supplied with, 12V) sound different...
Did you actually heard them sound different?
Did anyone tampered with their trimmer?

Actually, the 14V you see in the V4 is AC voltage. That AC voltage is then rectified to DC by the 4001 diodes and combined (there are 2 14V outputs from the transformer). So, by the time it reaches the 7812 in the V4, the voltage is more like 25VDC

I couldn't imagine the sound of the V4 and V5 differ that much unless you have golden ears.

My question would be... Why do you want to mod it if it works just fine? Seems it would be a lot easier to use the DC powered version (with a wall wart) than the transformer version.
