Weird Fuzz issues

So I've built a couple of Fuzz pedals (EHX big muff 66 & rockett wtf) however I have the same issue with both.

when they are plugged in and working they both have no audio coming out UNTIL you strum quite hard

I have no idea what could cause this so any ideas are appreciated

Could be mis-biasing of active components, but best to show us what you think you've built (schematics) and what you have built (board pictures).  In any case, a visit to the sticky "Debugging" thread will give us a much better idea, if not an immediate answer.
