Problem with LM386; would it be busted?

Hello, this is my first time posting here, however, I've been reading a lot of posts here.
Years ago I built a guitar and wanted to build an amp and pedals but never had the time, recently I decided to do it, so, I've built a Ruby, a MXR Distortion+, I'm building a CIW and today built a basic LM386 based amp. I used this turorial: https://www.instructables.com/id/Post-Apocalyptic-Amplifier/ and when I finished and tested it it has A LOT of distortion. It's the same lm386 from my ruby, and it was distorted too, but I thought it was normal, now I'm worried it would be busted. How can I troubleshoot the IC?
