G'day,

My father in law, used to own a carlsbro echo pedal and was raving about it to me.  He doesn't have it any more as he couldn't get it fixed at the time,  but after an enquiry to their service dept   - now  has a full circuit diagram of the pedal and spec sheets etc for the chips in it and a trouble shooting service personell guide.  Now as he has been impressed at the other pedals i have built he expressed his interest in me trying to build one of these. Having only built pedals from already made pcb's and never tried to transfer a schematic to a pcb design -
I understand laying out a pcb from schematic would be a big learning curve and prob take a quite a few "easier" projects before this one as the circuit seems quite complex.

so my question  - Anyone who knows this pedal - is there a pcb/pedal out there that has already been cloned that will give a similar sounding BB analogue echo?

cheers

sorry I've never heard of that pedal, good luck!

I don't know that pedal either. I do have a picture in my head of a Carlsboro delay in a box like the systech pedals used. Even recognizing the look, no way of knowing exactly whats going on inside.

The only DIY analog delay project that I'm aware of is the AD-3208. Check this link:

I remember this pedal from a long time ago, which I think used several TDA 1022 BBDs and was called the Mantis. I have a very poorly drawn circuit of it at home. It sounded like any other analogue delay pedal of its time to me.

Or dou you mean this one?:

Uses a Reticon R5101 BBD

What does that "Swell" control do?

Thank you for the responses:

Yep think thats the one cheers
I found some more  pictures here:

And as the ad3208 seems to be fairly representative of those types of delays I might build one first and see what the FIL thinks. he has a boss didgital delay and is not impressd with the sound of it. Loves the shadows and vintage gear, so this one I imagine would deliver him what he is after.

I dont have the schem with me at the moment but from memory  spec sheets were for mn3007, but that was not the ic's on the schem - will check tonight when i get home.

I gig`ed this pedal when I was younger and can testify this really has a very particular feel about it that I have not been able to find in other modern delay pedals, unfortunately I no longer have this pedal any more.
I came across your post during an online search as I wanted to either try to pick up a 2nd hand one or try to find the specifications to get a better match or see if I could use one of the more modern modellers to try to recreate the sound.

I have not found or seen a clone of this delay as yet but OI would be very interested in getting a copy of the schematics and specs you obtained, did you just request them from Carlsbro ?  do you have a contact there ?

Thanks

"swell" is feedback.

there's not many analog delay projects out there mainly cuz the chips are too hard to find consistently.

many many many of the digital pt1299 projects sound a lot like analog delays.

dino i believe has a project on deadendfx.com for a work alike to the old dod tape echo simulator. i built one to use live to give my echoplex a break, it works great. i forget the name of the project, but its a digital delay that sounds ridiculously tape like.

found it... but appears sold out

based on the ibanez em5 echo tape machine. works great. well, mine did, anyways, until last nite ;)
