Guess: AC powered pedals don't have a problem with this because you can't daisy chain them? Each has its own power supply... If you tried to hook several AC effects to one power supply you might?

I thought the issue is with the GND level on the signal cable, daisy chaining power should be no issue as long as it is done before the rectifier and as long as the other pedals meet the same power requirements.

In an AC powered pedal, neither of the connections at the power socket are referenced to audio signal ground. In a DC powered pedal, one of the connections is referenced to signal ground, so if you add another pedal that offsets ground by a diode drop, you'll get a current loop.

120 or 240 VAC powered devices are daisy chained, all the time.
