My dumb beginner questions.

I'm building a King Of Tone clone.  I got it from OP Electronics. It's got foot switch daughter boards, I've never used them, and ribbon wire to connect them. My question is, do I still need to run wore to the switch lugs on bottom for things like ground or is that all included in the daughter board. I don't have the pcb in front of me, so I can't post a pic yet.

Also, what, if any, insulation do you guys put between your pots and the pcb? They aren't pcb mounted pots and i don't have any experience with them. I've got leg pieces from other components soldered into the lugs so I can solder that into the pcb.
Sorry for the dumb and imprecise questions. Thanks for any help you all could give.

First off...

WELCOME!

Generally, all the connections are acounted for between the main PCB and the daughterboard.

If you're using 16mm pots, there are pots available with plastic caps on the backside of the pot. This eliminates and grounding of the pot body to the solder points. If not, you can get 1/8" thick by 1" wide single sided sticky foam from the hardware store. Stick a piece on the backside, and trim off the excess.

I will add to Dino's always-sound recommendations by suggesting you try an LM/MC1458 dual op-amp for one of the channels.  I find it "sands off the sharp edges" a bit.

Thanks!! This is my 2nd pedal I'm building. My first was a Klon clone with a boost channel, I got that one from BYOC and it was friggin fantastic.
This one is great too, but, most information is in Italian lol.
Any recommendations for places to buy kits? I know of small bear, BYOC (obviously), Aion, and a couple others. But, I'm always open to try some others.
Thanks again!!!

Welcome.

Not "dumb". Nobody knows this stuff from birth. Ignorant, but ignorance can be cured.

Give links. Too hot today to Search. Like this:

Sure looks like the switch sub-boards and ribbons do all the wiring needed.

LOL. I didn't even think about looking at the site. 🤣🤣
Thanks for the info and the the welcome.
I'm trying to cure the ignorance one pedal build at a time.

I had great success in taking a big bite out of the ignorance the day I joined this forum. The rest... is a constant work in progress. :icon_wink:

Ok, I've got everything basically done. I'm waiting for different pots, I'm not a fan of the solder lug pots.
When wiring up the DC jack, if you're not using a battery hookup, do you need to wire the jack lug that would go to the battery? Like, does it need to be wired to anything else instead or can I just leave off that wire?

Solder lug pots are useful when building things on vero or pcbs without board mount holes. Trying to solder wire to pcb pins on pots can be a real pain in the hole in my experience.

For the DC jack you don't need to run an extra wire. Just ground wire to the right angle lug and 9v to the lug nearest the outside edge
