I'm building the Catalinbread Pareidolia (via PedalPCB), and I'm having trouble sourcing an XR2206 Function Generator IC. The whole thing is built except for that! I've bought 2 chips on EBay, including a $6 chip from a US seller and both had batch#F0919. From the forums it appears that F0919 is fake and/or it requires significant component modifications to make it work in a circuit designed to work with the XR2206 IC. From the PedalPCB forum, it looks like no one has had luck making the circuit work with Batch 0919.

I'm writing to see if anyone out there is selling a working IC from batch F0918 or if you know where I can source one. Apparently Jameco has it, but that's $8 plus a $5 processing fee, possibly plus shipping. If anyone knows of any other options please let me know. Thanks!

issue with ordering semiconductors off eBay (even us sellers who may have the items drop shipped from overseas) is that you've no idea what you're gonna get. it appears as if there's "savings" until one finds oneself ordering multiple times trying to get the actual parts ordering, waiting weeks each time to receive.
I've found ordering from reputable sources is the way to go. stock up on some other components to make the shipping seem less painful

Any chance you could redesign the circuit to use an XR-8038?  You could probably wire up an adapter board (it's not a pin-for-pin replacement).  These are available http://www.bgmicro.com/ICS1069.aspx

Thanks for the suggestions! The 8038 option would be cool if I could be sure that it would work, but given that the Chinese 2206 ICs aren't working I'm a little reluctant to go through all the trouble of ordering something else and wiring up the adapter board only to find that it doesn't work.

I'm totally stocked up on parts or the Jameco option would be more attractive. I guess if no one here has any extras they can part with though that might be the only option

I think I've got a pretty good supply of NOS pieces.  Let me check my stash.

I bought some from Futurelec I think and they all work.   I tested them in the Echo Dream 2 delay, with an 18V charge pump.   I also have one of those cheap Chinese function generators, and they all worked in that at 9V.

Awesome, Theehman + betteroffshred, pls. PM me if you have Batch 0918. Thanks!
