Potentiometer in Circuit Help

Question:
When a pot is shown on a schematic, is there a rule for connections 1 2 3 ?
Yes the wiper or output is 2, the middle lead (connection).
Pots are usually drawn vertically, so leads 1 and 3 are coming out the ends of the pot symbol.
So question... which is which, or is there no "rule"...lead 1 on top or bottom ?
Is the image correct, I find conflicting "data" on the net.

No rule at all..

Depends on particular circuitry and desirable CW/CCW action..
(e.g. on your scheme, if pot is a Volume one, it acts CCW for Volume rise..)

The purpose of the 1, 2, 3 markings/labels on the schematic is to indicate the clockwise direction of the control. It is not necessary to draw the symbol so that "1" is always top or bottom, nor is it necessary to draw it vertically. Any orientation is fine. Do whatever makes the schematic neater or more readable.
