Is there anyone who has seen this before?
The idea is to sum two signals that emphasize one polarity. The difference in gain of both makes the assymetry of the sum.

My old Fet Muff pedal used the single diode clipper.  If you start to emphasize the even harmonics, the sound is often very octave-up and is more interesting if you clip the resulting signal, as is done in many of the octave pedals.

I don't know whether it is the intention but the picture shows the primary principle how push-pull stages "cancel" even order distortion and focus on odd order...?

Such schemes are extremely popular today in various analog emulations of tube (power amp) circuits. For obvious reason.

Yes, by varying ratio of the "mix" one can blend between asymmetric clipping (even and odd order distortion) and symmetric clipping (odd order distortion).

Behringer, BTW, holds a patent of this and uses such circuit in their effect processors (ultra tube / UTC).

Well yes. This is only interesting if you want to "shape" even order content.
A pure simple class A BJT stage has its own even order content... or a JFET of course.
