Guys, a friend asked for an over the top distortion, it really has to CHUG!
proposed a krank DM but no still too wimpy...he'd like to have some heavy 'metal zone' chugginess.
apart from the mt2 itself, what shall I build to get that really heavy distortion!?

I saw that and it's great, extreme but versatile distortion. not the easiest build but that could be a good candidate. thank you

The simplest hi gain great sounding circuit I can think about is Joe Davisson's Vulcan.

My main hi gain distortion for now is the Okko Dominator. But it is not as hi gain as Deadastronaut's Skinwalker.

Friedman BE-OD, Diezel VH4 (pedal) and Revv G4 would be my top 3 picks  8)

Hi, Adriano, long time! I hope you and yours are well. (I got nothing on the distortion.)

Yes, I live in Rome, we had big problems in the northern part of Italy but center and south had little problems, the virus did not spread that much. thx for asking!

Well, how versatile and how complicated do you want it to be? There are may great options for a one-trick-pony chug machine. Joe Davisson's Vulcan (3 or better yet, the 4 stage version: https://www.aronnelson.com/DIYFiles/up/MinisagverketDemo.mp3) is fantastic and fairly simple. See recent thread here: https://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=124510.msg1181495#msg1181495

Joe davissons Obsidian is also great: https://www.diystompboxes.com/analogalchemy/

Fairly fantastic mega-gain distortions can be built from CMOS inverters. Essentially a Tube Sound Fuzz with more stages and extra tone shaping. I played around with such a thing some time ago but never finished it. Maybe someone has a fully developed design? These things are noisy but I guess utmost noiselessness it not the #1 concern in an over-the-top mega-gain distortion. Noise is part of the music at some point.

General advice: Add one Tube Screamer clipping stage (or even two in series) to the front of any distortion to make it chug more. Alternatively, any decent treble booster will do. Pre-distortion high-mid boost is critical here. Some people just use several treble boosters in a row and seem to like it.
