I built this kit from aion, the zendrive clone, I followed step by step instructions and double checked almost everything before soldering, all the polarities and values to make sure they were right.
The led light will turn on when engaged but the sound goes completely dead, I can hear my amp when its off.
I had an extra capacitor and resister at the end and there's 2 open spots on the footswitch board for these, but nothing in the instructions said anything about  R8 or C8 so i left them open. I have a dmm and tested a 9v battery with it but when i try to test the ic i dont get any readings, i have it set to DC 20V.

Hi and welcome to the forum... :icon_biggrin:

the build doc you are using as reference is the 1.0.0 version while your board is the 1.1.0 version... here's the correct build doc...

from here, we can see that you do need to solder R8 and C8 in, otherwise your pedal would have no power at all...

that should fix your problem... :icon_biggrin:

i just soldered them in and it didnt fix it, theres no other value changes that i can see from the parts list on boths instructions

so now that you soldered R8 and C8 in, can we have voltages of the IC? also, if you are using a battery, what voltage reading do you get from it?

thanks for the reply, Im using a multi meter set to dc 20v and I'm not getting a reading from any of the pins on the IC, idk if I'm doing it wrong or what(I put the black prong to a screw hole on the case and the red pin on the ic pin). I didnt install the 9v battery because I always power through a 1spot, maybe I should install the 9v battery clip and try it through that. I will get a new multi meter tomorrow and re test the ic values.

Did you plug a cable into the input jack?  Not all pedals require that for wall-wart power, but some do.  It's not detailed on the Aion schematic.

Your soldering looks good, obviously not your first time.  Installing R8 seemed like a sure fix.

I plugged a 9v adapter in to the pedal(run from a 1spot cs7), and then through my guitar and amp.
I have built at least 10 diy kits and never had an issue, I'm pretty tedious when following electronics instructions because I know how fussy they can get. The only thing I'm seeing differently on the instructions is some of the input wiring is different, and they are using different jacks etc. IDK why I cant get a reading from the IC as I have my dmm set like this, and using the black pin on a screw hole ground and the red pin on the IC pins. Im not too great at troubleshooting tbh and I've been very lucky that the pedals I have built have all worked on the first go previously.

If I were you, I wouldn't rely on the "screw hole ground".  Put your black probe on something that's known to be 0V.  There seem to be lots of "GND" pads on those boards.  Or use the -ve lug on the DC jack.

I installed the germanium diode correctly right?

even if not that wouldnt cause it to have no sound correct?

oh my god...i just realized after i added the other 2 cap/trans i put the input/output backwards...i feel so stupid, it works now  >:( wow. Thanks everyone for the help! I feel like such an idiot lol.
