Purpose of jumper between clipping diodes

What does that jumper achieve ?

In theory, nothing.  When one string of diodes is conducting, the other isn't.  So one end of the jumper is "always" connected to "nothing".

Probably for ΒΟΤΗ diode strings to be set ON/OFF simultaneously..

How about this:

To put one of the diodes in the "off" set of diodes into greater reverse bias, hence shutting them more effectively ???
