I finished my  Squeezer , chked over everything, rechked, and nothing really..I had gain running through my amp and when i switched it on it killed most the volume and gain..I built this with the RC4558P. Does this op amp need anything done to it.. How will I know when this thing is working right? Ive heard the samples, but is it one of those things that youll just notice right away. I knew when my distotion effect was working right away..Anyway.. all advice welcome.

Hi,
am I understanding that the volume cuts out when you swtich it on??
Have you checked that the trim pots are up?? If they aren't you won't get any volume. make sure the transistors are in the right way.
I had a slight volume drop with mine when i struck the strings hard but I changed the transistors to MPF102s and that cleared it up and it sounds awesome now.

Let us know what you find out.

you'll need to adjust the trimpot so that you're just on the good side of the "working/not working" point.  Sounds like you might be on the wrong side.

good to know your squeezer is working now.  Fets are tricky things sometimes.

Maybe someone should re-think the fet part of the squeezer circuit so it ain't so touchy.
cheers.

Exactly the same happened to me but it was just an adjustment of the internal trim pot. Another tip, try 2N5457 instead of the J201 (less gain but a more "musical" tone). I set mine for maximum attack and it sounds great !
