Hi.

I have a Fulltone Clyde standard wah and a AC128 fuzz face.

I quess you know what the problem is...... no wah when both on.

Does anyone have a schematic/diagram for a buffer ? Or doesn't this really help?

Thanks

Hendrix's wah had a 10k output resistor to work with any fuzzface he brought in.

cheers
friendly reminder: all holes are positive and have negative weight, despite not being there.

cheers

a 10k resistor where exactly? That should fix my problem ? :-\

The resistor goes in series with the output...could be the wire that goes from PCB to the foot switch; cut it, solder R to both ends, tape it or heat shrink it and try it. Low risk experiment. The "typical vintage wah" took its output from terminal 1 of the pot. This means the pot interacts with whatever comes after. That resistor "isolates" just enough to make a difference.

Ah ok just in series between output wire and switch of circuit.

I also read different values up to 25k..? And it does change the caracter of the fuzz a bit ?

GibsonGM

Yes, the 10k works.  Just try it and see if you like it.   :icon_biggrin:

What the...

Explain to me why this works!? :o

I wired the 10k resistor(carbon comp to fit the pcb design) and it wahs! :icon_lol:

The FF has a low input impedance (where it is desired to have a HIGH impedance, generally).  It's kind of a 'tone sucker' ha ha.  The resistor helps artificially raise this to make the 2 play nicely together.   Pretty well-documented phenomenon.  I put my R on the INPUT of the FF, but it's the same thing.  Rock on!

I'm reading a lot now about this mod.

But i can also put a pot between the output wire and switch as a variable resistor. What is the effect if i chance the resistor value exactly ? Sweep range ?

GibsonGM

The effect of varying that resistance would be the raising or lowering of the impedance between the 2 devices.  That relationship does have an impact on tone.

Of course (as you guessed) the sound of the FF will change a little by putting an R there - so the variable R lets you dial in exactly how much R you need to keep your wah and minimize impact on the FF.

Or - you might LIKE the sound with more resistance, so you can add more!  Try it out, see what happens!
