Help with understanding noise

I had random Bzzt sounds coming my audio circuits for *years*.  I went through the whole house turning things off then went to the fuse box switching out circuit and phases.   Never any luck isolating a fault.

One day I was sitting at my PC and the PC speakers were producing the Bzzt much more strongly than normal.  A few hours after that the street supply shutdown.    Ever since then I haven't heard the Bzzt.   It must have been a hot joint or insulation break down somewhere in the system that finally gave in.
