Hello!

Long time lurker here!
Without the help and instructions of many of you that I read here, I would not have been able to build my first five pedals! A big thanks for this!! Great forum!!

Now I' trying to get the Boss CE-2 clone running.
I've bought the board from tonepad:
http://tonepad.com/project.asp?id=53
and put the pieces together.

I have sound on the output, but no chorus.
I follow the schematic with my audioprobe. The signal comes out of IC1 pin1 and out of IC1 pin7 and from there to the output.
But the section, where the signal gets chorused, doesnt work. My signal gets to pin3 of IC3 (MN3007) but not out from there on any pin.

I measured all voltages on the ICs. Could somebody check on them, if they are reasonable?

IC1:

IC2:

var 4.5 to 4.6
var 2.5 to 6.0

4.6 to 4.7

IC3:

IC4:

I'm a bit lost what to do now.
I'd apreciate any clues.
Thanks

First of all, welcome.

Now, where did you got your MN3007? There are loads of fake ones out there, and if you don't use a legit one, you'll get no chorus.

Please don't mention that!  :icon_sad:
The first handful of 3007 I ordered cheap from China (aliexpress), only to find out that they are fake. They gave me totally wrong voltage readings.
The 3007 are very hard to come by here in Europe (any sources?).
So I found a legit looking company in Italy. I paid quite a lot.
Now my voltages look much more what I would expect. That's why I hoped it to be a genuine one.
Can someone confirm?

Have you tried adjusting the Vb trimmer? Do it while audio is coming in. This provides the bias of the BDD and it will only pass the signal at a particular point.

Your clocks certainly are NOT correct. IC3 Pins 2 & 6 should NOT be seeing full voltage OR zero volts. That is why you have no chorus. Check your component orientation and values around the MN3101. Specifically D1, D2, R38, R39 and R40. As well as the pinout for Q5.

You should be seeing about half-voltage on Pins 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8 of the MN3007 (about 4.6V in your case)

Hi, just wanted to give you guys a followup.
After trying out more than 15 different MN3007 from 4 different sources (!), I finally found two that are working.
And guess what - from China.
After hours of double checking and measuring and looking for cold solder joints, this beast is finally chorusing and I'm more than happy with it!

(In my despair, and to be absolutely sure, that it is not my fault but the corrupt 3007s, I even built a Small Clone to test the ICs. Same problems there. Now that I got the good ICs, I got two chorus pedals... and I like both!  ;D ;D ;D )

Thanks for all the help!
