Octavia Transformer Orientation?

Does anyone know what side the primary and secondary, should be? I assume the primary is on the diode side?

And a side question, where it says MPS A18 is wrong, they just mean Collector and Emitter are flipped on the symble, right? (Emitter 9V, Collector to ground)

BYOC schematic calls the output side the primary, and yes flips E and C of Q1. I've built those, it works that way.
