Reverse Polarity & Voltage Doubler

I'm wondering if the diodes in the voltage doubler circuit shown here act as reverse polarity protection as well.
(Actual 'doubled' voltage is closer to 16V)

Not for C19 or the 555. I would recommend a dedicated charge pump chip lest your next thread will be yet another about 555 noise :D.
