A DOD FX-17 fell into my lap recently. Cool pedal, small footprint, icepick wah.

I can confirm that Paul Marossy/Mark Hammer's modification suggestions work nicely.

From Paul's website: http://www.diyguitarist.net/DIYStompboxes/FX17Mods.htm

A resonance control could be added by changing the 100K resistor from Pin 9 to 13 to a 10K resistor with a 100K pot.

NOTE: Contrary to the available schematic, the 100K resistor in question does not run directly from Pin 9 to 13. Looking at the board from above, it's the third resister to the left of the bottom of the 13600 IC. I used a 50K trim pot paired with a 39K resistor. This mod shapes the point of the icepick. Tune to your taste.

The sweep range of the wah section can be changed by changing the value of the 0.01uF caps on Pins 5 & 12 of the 13600 IC chip. Making these caps smaller will shift the sweep range up and making them larger will shift it down. For use with a bass guitar, something like 0.022uF might be a good choice.

Done. This further softens things up, and now the pedal and my guitar and my ears get along.

Yummy!

Disclaimer: while I've owned altogether too many wah pedals, I'm not a stickler about how they sound...as long as they don't make my ear canals shrink in terror.

Further disclaiming: It is highly unlikely that I'll be able to satisfactorily answer any follow-up questions, for I am a caveman.

Ma throats as dry as an overcooked kipper.

Smoke me a Kipper. I'll be back for breakfast.

What sweep cap values did you settle on?
