Tried adding this post to Robs original thread but can't add to a thread that's over 120 days old?

Anyhow, Feb 2021 I received my board, started it, was missing a few components and shelved it till yesterday.

Of course, it doesn't work! Dry signal is fine but nothing coming via the FV-1. Examined the board with a microscope and double checked all component values.

First, I need an idiot check. have I soldered the FV-1 the right way round? Seems right but tracing black on black tracks is hard for my eyes

Secondly, this was my first attempt at SMD soldering and it's entirely possible that I've overheated it. What measurements could I make to check this?

I'm only trying to use the internal sounds at the moment as the eproms are not programmed so the switch is in the center position. Also, my board has a resistor (R7) located beside the switch. This does not appear in the build documents but appears to be present in Robs build photos - linked with a wire under the board? I've used a 1R to make the link

All sorted - thanks Rob!

My presumption that R7 was a link was incorrect. Snipped it off and it's all working. Can now get back to work on my stereo sub board for it  ;D

It actually says
"Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.
Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic."

Use your judgement. Think. If people may freak-out at an old discussion come to life again, maybe start a new conversation? But if "you're sure" it really is pertinent and on topic, just going slow, go ahead and post.

At some forums, anything stale annoys some members. Forum software writers have to cater to such societies.

Of course here the height of civilization was 1965 and we are all living in a past, more or less some days.

And the "120 days" is some kind of arbitrary. Sometimes yesterday's news is old cold, other times a thread from 2003 is brought to the top again.

Yes, that what it said and I decided to post anyway. It was then that a message was thrown up saying that before the post could be added, an error must be corrected. The error was...

"Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.

I'm curious if you have discovered a bug in the forum. I don't mean to distract from your FV-24 talk which I know little about.

Don't worry about the content of this thread Paul, it's done and dusted.

Regarding the 'bug' - I'm not convinced that it is. Usually when I see that message, I can just post a reply if I think that is right to do.

Yesterday, when I was making the OP, the forum was extremely sluggish. Resolving pages could take a minute or two, actions like previewing my post were equally slow and sometimes failed. My habit of copying my post to clipboard allowed me to refresh the thread and start again which I was forced to do several times.

I made the post using Win10 (Edge) but accessed the forum using Rpi & Mac and it was equally slow on all devices and browsers while other sites loaded normally. This gave me to think that the forum was 'having a moment' a situation which lasted perhaps 2 hours or so.

The fact that you have successfully posted a reply to a thread more than 120 days old indicates to me that it's now working as expected and the 'moment' is over?

AI bots don't bat a virtual eyelid when posting nonsense to ancient, dormant threads.   :icon_rolleyes:

And . . .

Nice to see it's all working!  :icon_cool:

P.S. Where's Rob?  Not seen him around so much lately.  Hopefully working on some new mega-project.  :icon_cool:

Chatted with Rob via mail yesterday. He's finding the forum slow and a bit frustrating. Also, he's busy playing and recording so, we don't get the pleasure of his demos quite so often but he's fine

Ha!

I've taken 3 years to complete one of his pcb's and you want me to call him lazy?
