The Tonepad Orange Squeezer project has mods for bass. The mods refer to a bleeder cap. Which cap in the schematic is the bleeder cap?

Also, does anyone have other ideas for modding the OS for bass?

Thanks,

There was someone who did that awhile back but that is all in the archives...wherever that is...

The "bleeder" cap is the 4.7uf cap going to ground after the diode.  This sets the decay or recovery rate.  Generally, one adjusts this to suit the primary bandwidth of the signal so as to avoid the sort of warble as a note trails off.  This is a normal concern of any compressor and any signal source.  In the case of bass, it is usually smart to increase the value.  Consider wiring yours up with an addition 4.7uf or 10uf cap to be patched in parallel with the existing 4.7uf cap.  That will give you some flexibility and allow it to suit different signal types.

Consider sticking a 100pf cap in the feedback loop in parallel with the 220k resistor as well.  That will roll off the treble above about 7.2khz which will kill lots of hiss and still provide plenty of treble and bite.

Thanks for the info Mark. I'll give that a try.
