so i placed a mouser order last week and received it last night. of the 8 itmes i ordered, i needed to return 5 (all MY error -- wrong size, type, blah blah blah).

so i called mouser today for a RGA. the overly perky woman on the phone tallied up the amount of the credit and it came to $16 and some change. because it was such a tiny amount (to Mouser, certainly not to me!), they're having me keep the parts AND they're crediting me the entire amount.

i realize it's not worth their while to receive and restock the items (their cost is probably what, like $8?), but i just couldn't believe how cool they were about it. like the title says, i'm a mouser customer for life. :)

Mouser rocks if you're willing to search hard in their catalog.  I've got one coming in the mail  8)

I hate to waste paper, but I have to say the Mouser catalog makes for some great inspirational reading material. Well worth it. Their on-line store has additional items too, but the catalog has much of what you would ever need.

Digikey is the same way and they have parts Mouser doesn't (and vice versa).

Both catalogs are mandatory. ;)

I ordered J201's said I want the 'regular transistors', I ordered 25.
Inside the bx I found a rattle strip containing 42 Jfets, each about 1/4 the size of a thumbnail clipping with leads about 1/4 thumbnail THICKness long.
I dunno what they're for but they sent tme the J201's [TO92] style ones totally free...anybody know what to do with these sub-miniature J201's ???...lol

could they be the ones pictured on the right in this datasheet?

If they are, pull one out of the tape and set it down on pad-per hole perf. See how you can line the leads up with the pads. With a small iron and mellow heat you can use them just like their TO-92 cousins.

Start by leaving a little dab of solder on one of the pads; set the SO-23 package down with one lead (source or drain) touching the solder dab, and then hit the dab with the iron to "reflow solder" it in place. Follow by quickly soldering the other lead that lines up with a pad and then use a component lead to hit the third lead.

Use tiny solder and it's easiest to also add a little liquid or paste flux. Welcome to SMD land! ;)

Get some 1206 package resistors and you can build a booster that's ridiculously small.

Take care,

I'll second that statement. :)

(orders the digikey catalog and makes it the other stop for the parts he needs)

i agree w anonymousexperimentalist.. very prompt! labled, great cust serv too..U do have to search the part catal. yourself..i have minature opamps i cant use either..never tried calling them back though.. my loss.. o well..ill try.. i really likem though...shipping not too bad.(.except for the lack of labeling-- i like steve at smallbear better) more personalized.
