a quad of philips nos el84's cost 86 dollars and a quad of Ei Elites cost 48 dollars. these are uk prices and since i won't be buying the tubes from us they won't change for me. so, philips quad:86 bucks - ei elites quad:48 bucks.

do you think that it is a good idea to pay 38 dollars more and buy the philips? the amp they will be going in is a peavy delta blues.

btw i will be buying preamp tubes also and  3 philips 12ax7's cost 60 dollars and 3 Ei Elite 12ax7's cost 30 dollars. just the half of philips'.

what do you think? i had heared that philips was know as the most musical 12ax7 producer.

and as for el84's: ei vs philips...most probably philips sounds better but is it 38 dollars better?

the criteria i consider is MUSICALITY. i bought the amp this week and i really, really want to test it with some musical tubes (it has stock sovteks at the moment).

we had discussed the ei elites before here and people had agreed that they were pretty good.

suggestions needed.

thanks guys.

If you're putting them in a vintage amp forget the Phillips...though they made some great tubes, the 6BQ5 was not one of them...

The EI's have volume, punch, clarity and chime like no tomorrow...

I just bought a pair of JJ's, which have a pretty good reputation. Haven't listened to them yet. Price was pretty reasonable.
