make a template of the box you are covering  several ways once you cut the fabric to the correct size you simply spray on ahesive. glue on or what ever your little heart desires and go from there.  i usualy stich yp thesides before i ever glue it. taht way i can turn it right side out and slide it on the box with the stiches and the glue on the inside.  once it is on you have two options.   it is better to clear coat the top of it. to make ti look more like paint. unless you use a thick fuzzy type material and then i just leave ti plain.
