So what's the verdict on permantent marker?

Either in between the color coats and the enamel or on top of the enamel?  Does the enamal wash it off?  Will it stay on there if I put it on post-enamel?

I know I can use paint and stuff, I just like permanent marker a lot...

So, answering my own question...

I had a box that I wrote with red permanent marker on to label what each of the knobs did in proto-stages... the spray paint definitely desolved it.  On my next project, I'm going to draw things on it, let the spray paint dissolve it, and then make swirl-designs... or die trying!

Hi Colin,

My girlfriend has two markers with silver and gold ink in them. They can be used to write christmas cards etc. I think they are "water" based, so I think they will persist better if you spray over it. Maybe you can try this.

I did this when using markers.

I painted my box with paint.

Next I used 'Permapaque' Opaque Pigment Markers which I bought at an art supply store -- the markers have a chisel end and a bullet head.

Then I clear coated the box.

I painted my Shaka Braddah III that way.

BTW, I don't think Sharpie's and markers like that will fair as well.  Not sure though.
