I think this has been gone over before - but has anyone found a source fro a 20KG pot?

I know you can get pots custom made - Steve Daniels if you're out there, have you ever thought of getting some stock made for small bear? I have no idea how much it'd cost to get a smallish batch of these made from a pot maker.

Anyway, has anyone got an info on this?

you ever tried manipulating the values of the wafers in there and making your own. otu of a different pot.

no.

I was however wondering if it'd be possible to use say a 12 position rotary switch here, similiar to like you might have for a gain control in a mic pre. I envisage this would give 12 different points along the graphic EQ curve- probably not bad.  Is this possible?

In my opinion the average builder would have better luck with the 12 pos rotary than with sanding wafers.  Either way there's probably a lot of trial and error before you get it right.  But a lot easier to tweak the switch I think.  Some folks just can't stand to have preset positions, even if it covers 99% of the useful territory, a lot of people still don't like it.  Look at the seemingly immense aversion to the detent log pots around there.

I feel that I can get a pretty good uniform sweep with a 25k log wired backwards.  Treble is CCW (like the Rat)  if you can get used to that, it's a good alternative.  I know 25k logs aren't exactly easy to find either.

Seems like Small Bear could sell a _whole lot_ of 20kG pots if he could get them (hint, hint).

I emailed Steve about this - he informed me that Ilbanez wont sell the spare part to him, and that he didnt' think if he got the pots made specially he'd sell enough to make it cost effective :(

I might investigate the rotary switch further, more for education than anything - I figure if I could get it working well I'll learn a lot in the process.

A trick people used in the old days to make a 'backwards' pot feel better, was to have a plastic disk on the shaft, with the numbes on it, and a pointer fixed to the panel. Then as you set the value, it just 'feels' more logical.
