Hey Guys!!. Have a couple of qs about this great pedal. I won't get 2n5089, but will use bc549c which are great for this type of circuit. So the first one....how about biasing of the circuit?. How do you set the bias of the first, and second stages?. Some voltages will be great. And second...what caps do you suggest for audio path. Ceramic?. Polys?. Thanks a lot!!

Joe Davisson

I think those transistors should work. Adjust the bias of Q2 so that the collector of Q3 is near 4.5v. (anywhere between 4-5v is okay...)

Ceramic caps are fine, probably the best actually (besides paper but those are kinda bulky.) I've built this type of circuit (Blackfires) with the cheapest ceramic chip caps with great results, if that matters...

Ok Joe. Thanks  lot!!. Another question. I remember RG said something about biasing the range master about 6.5 volts. Any ideas about this may bost section?. Usual 4.5?? Thanks again!

Joe Davisson

4.5v should be fine, I just built the circuit as shown and it was good. Make sure Q3's collector is around 4.5v too and you're good to go...

I don't remember what the collector voltage was set at for the first stage. I will have to check. I used mylar film caps for the small ones and electros for the the big ones. I just used parts I had lying around.

ok guys!! Thanks you!! I'm ready to go. I'll let you know when it's done.
