hey guys ..i have a monsterpiece NPN fuzz i got on ebay a while back..a prototype #3 and i hadnt really looked at the circuit. i opened er up today and noticed 33uf input cap and thought it was strange. i like the sound of the unit but it is kinda mild. the output is a .1 butter pat. carbon comp resistors and bc108s. i figured with the bc108's it would be more aggressive sounding? it has kind of a "constricted and compressed" tone. i changed the drive pot from a 1k to a 5k and it sounded terrible. is the 33uf in cap causing this constriction? it will be a pain to switch it out as the perf is glued to standoffs. anyways it seemed large to me.

Ilike like ~ 10 or 4.7uf there in FF.
Maybe try checkin pin voltage on Q2 collector... as I remem the FF I looked at the board was upside down with the Q's tops facing the top of the box...either would have to take the board off or touch leads to the bottom of the board.

i will check the collector voltage tomorrow. the vol pot is a 500k, would changing to a 100k bring out a little extra brightness? it sounds great as it is, but it needs a little more fidelity you know? i am gonna try to get the pc loose and breadboard it to see if i can get it the way i want it. thanks for the suggestion pete..

Have you read the Technology of the Fuzz Face at Geo FX?   It breaks the circuit down very well.  If you haven't you should put that on your must read list.  It's extremely helpful.

It 'could be titled everything you need to know about a FF but didn't want to read...lol...
Actually it can be a tough read with the equations and all, but that is one Gem of a write...
I doubt very many ppl can read that article and retain most of it the first time through, that, and the way it dexcribes the FF makes it an even greater re-read.
