General FF Question

What's the sonic difference of having the output cap come from:
 1  Q2's collecoor
 2  between the 'top' [small usually less than 1k] resistor and the top of Q2's collector resistor?
 I'm building a Miss Piggy [wouldn't you know] and this is the first time I remember seeing the output come from the top of Q2's resistor.

I looked up FF / Arbiter in schematics and see on this schematic also the output cap between the 470 ohm and the 8k2 [Q2 C resistor]

this is called 'split plate load' in tube amp land, not sure if it has a name here, but basically it's a voltage divider in the collector circuit.

look at the stock rangemaster circuit - see how it has a pot for the collector resistor?  think of the two resistors in the ff Q2's collector as being a pot that's turned down a bit.  

it's missing in the schem you're looking at just cos whoever drew it wanted more output level.

Yeah, I noticed this when building aron's Hornet recently.  The output straight from the collector of Q2 is MUCH larger than from between the resistors. (I guess you'd expect that from the resistor values - usually 470ohms and 8.2k (or trimmed to a value usually around 10k).  From memory, the collector gives a couple of V (p-p), while from the middle of the resistors gave about 0.2V.

So does it have any impact on the sound of the pedal other than making it louder?  I was thinking of adding a BMP-style tone control to a Fuzz Face, and the extra volume would prevent it from losing so much volume through the tone control section.
