Hello Hello Everybody--
O.K., here's something for all of you people who play in a band situation.
What guitar and amp and fuzzboz set-up do you use in yer band??
[Also,  how noisey is yer rig when the pedal is kicked in??]
What I've been using lately is:
  Marshall 50-watt [older late 60's and early 70's tops] with either a 2-12" or 4-12 Celestion spkrs and Vox-type 30-watt class-A EL-84 amp and either 1-12" or 2-12" Celestions.
Various Gibson and Fender guitars [and Hamer!] for different sounds.
Vox '67 Tonebender  [semi-noisey], Tonebender MK II [semi-noisier at high settings!] , various DIY TB's and Fuzz Faces [ not too bad], various
4-tranny TB-style circuits [noisiest!], Rangemaster germ and silicon pedals[not too noisey].
Anyway, I play LOUD!
How about everybody else??
Brian.

Oliver

Hi,

my Rig is build as followed:

Guitar (Fender 50th Anniv Strat - made in Japan but i changed the Stock
PUs to handwound Ones, that sounds like the Fender Texas Special)
or Epiphone SG Korina - all Stock, apart from the PU covers, that i removed to get a better sound (it helped)

DIY A/B Switchbox to tune silent
DIY RMClassicFuzz (slightly modified for my taste)
VOX Tonebender Fuzz (that reissue in a BlackBox)
Mr.CryBabyWahWah (at the Moment removed to modify to TrueBypass)
DIY Fulldrive2 (modified Boost, boosts the Gain with 200K and boosts
the Level with a variable resistor- 100KPot)

Amp - Fender DualShowmanReverb from 1982 (unfortunately modified
in the past by an unknown person, who rebuild the whole inside to a
onechannel ClassA 60Watt Amp = VibratoCircuit removed, the first 3 tubes produces the sound from clean to a really good sounding GainyCrunch. I bought it cheap at a small guitarshop because i liked the sound - its really good.

The Amp is connected to a 2x12 150Watt 4Ohm Cabinet from a German Custom Builder
Speakers are 12"Eminence

In my Band i play the Amp clean with slight dirt, when strings hidded harder. (the Sound comes like the beginning from TomPetty's CabinDownBelow, when played with my Stratocaster)
For bluesy Songs i dial in the TubeScreamer and boost it for Soloparts, or i dial in the VoxTonebender. To Fuzz up the Clean Amp i dial only in my DIY RMClassicFuzz.
There is no nerving noise, apart from a bit Hiss, when a Leadsound is dialed and i dont play.. (for example in a break, or between Songs)

here is a pic from my rig

bye
Oliver

Hello Oliver!--
 Thanks!
Brian.

Since I play in my bud's bedroom, with his drum maching (HEAVY LOUNGE) I don't need much.  I use a PV Bravo which is all tube EL84's and a 1-12" Celestion G12H-30 and use whatever distortion I'm tweeking at the moment.  Usually a BlackFire, Sweet16, ToneBender, Rat, or BF/Mu amp Hybrid, are spankin the Celestion.  I use the high gain channel when not tweaking something.

My guitars are either a Tokai Strat w/semour duncans, a 77 Les Paul goldtop w/SD's or a Mutated 66 Gibson Melody Maker with a SD Full Shred.

If we ever play anywhere, I'll probably just crank the clean channel up to patend pending ala B. Gibbons.

Have to agree with those sentiments, though I should have bought an tele rather than a strat (I'm still looking for that See Emily PLay & Astronomy Domine sound :( )

Marcus Dahl

"69 Vox Pathfinder
Gibson SG 1 w/Gibson 500T Pickup

Beer Buzz Fuzz (Modified Fuzz Face) not noisie

Experimental 2 diode clipper 741 type/Lil' Bastard Brewer(FuzzFace variant one knober) noisie around neon

Lil' Bastard(FuzzFace variant one knober) not noisie
JFet type booster noisie when cranked wide open

Special OD Modified (3 diode clippier) Diode control, tone, offset null, voltage sage. Very sweet pedal not noisie. It puts everything else I've done to shame.

I like simple circuits. Less things to go wrong, easy to fix, and if you do them right and take your time nothing can beat there tone.

Well let's see, Syd's tone was trebley to the max. He used an old Fender Esquire set on that back position on the 3-way switch which added some kind of incredible treble boost. Also he used a wah-wah quite liberally, as well as some kind of fuzz(for the feedback) as well. Oh, and a Selmer Piggyback 50watt amp.

I should add that all the distortions I use I learn how to build from this great forum and the discussions encouraged me to get an all tube amp to hear the differences.

I also left out the Mutant Tube Sounding Fuzz I originally build years ago when it first came out, but didn't like until I modded based on what I learned here.   8)  :D

Hullo Kilby--
Be sure to get a Tele with an alder body, not ash!  You want a good, even, warm jangle, not the "spikey" harsher twang of ash.
Just a thought--
Brian.
