I have just wired up an "Orange sunshine" box. It isn't doing anyhting. Except a few loug bangs when the power is interupted (battery un clipped)

I wonder if it's the trannies I'm using? I'm using BC108s with a HFe of 1000 (indicated) Should I try some other trannies?

Although I'm experienced in electronics, I don't know what to do and need a "second opinion"

Cheers,

H.

im not sure on what trannies, but where do u get ur components from? and also have you had any luck finding 3pdt switches in the uk?
sorry i cant help

I get my components from //www.maplin.co.uk they don't have as much choice as they used to though - I think they do more computer stuff.

How do you mean 3pdt? I don't know what that means, but if you give me a description, I could tell you :D

Hi,
could you sent to me the schematic, maybe i could help you!

If you could have a look at the schem, it would be appriciated!

Thanks ok,

In first check if your supply is 9 v when is on ,if not you've got a short,
check the  solders are ok,no shorts .If it's ok ,check the voltage on the trannys, the schematic is near the same of a Fuzz Face (change on the feedback resistor,). Maybe the bias  of the BC's aren't good,in this case try to change the emitter resistor by a pot ,like that it's possible to adjust the correct biais .A last question are you sure that the transistors are good?
Last week, i was debugging a silicon fuzz face and i didn't find the problem because i was thinking:  no it's not the BC 109!
after 1 hour i decided to change it , and the fuzz began to work!!
Good luck

The E and C voltage of the trannie are all about 0.2 - low. The whole circuit is also drawing almost 1 amp from the battery! I think it's a blown trannie - the battery voltage is normal.

After 2 minutes switched on the current has gone down to 700mA and the voltage on the trannie is 8.6 volts on each pin.

thats a pretty neat little circuit... raw trebley fuzz is my description....anyway, double check the resistance... the hfe of those tranny should be fine for this circuit tho... i personally liked 2n2222's for an even more lo-fi fuzz tone... if you have more si npn trannys in your parts bin, it might be worth swapping them out if you socketed them...
hth,
be well,

I knew Orange Sunshine and you, sir, are not ......... blah blah. Please post voltages. Think you are on the right track.

Robin

Er... did you switch tansistors just to see?
