I just got some ac188 transitors and I was checking them using the method layed out in the Technology of the FF artical and I keep getting strange readings.

The leakage reading (before I press the button) is usually around 1v to 1.5v
The gain reading (button pressed) is between 2.2v and 2.4v.

These readings are wrong?  They do have a higher Hfe from 100-500 but that shouldn't throw off the numbers that much...I don't think.

If it helps anyone help me    I just noticed that all the values seem doubled.

ie - 1.4v - 2.3v   1.1v - 2.2v   0.8v - 1.6v

Why is such a simple circut giving me so much trouble?  Shoulda ordered from small bear...

What are the color codes on the resistors you are using, and what is the power supply voltage?

The resistors are all right except for the 2.2M which is off by 0.6Meg's and the power supply is dead on 9v.  Double checked everything with a DMM.

But some new developments in the on going saga

I tested a 3906 and got zero leakage and a gain of 190 (meter read 1.9v anyway) which sounds more realistic.

Could the Ge numbers be right?  I did notice that the voltage reading was constantly falling.  When I put my fingers on the transitor, it shot back up.

I know that Ge devices are very temp. sensative but that sounds like too much.  After handling it just enough to get it in the socket the leakage would read as much as 1.6v on the meter.  After cooling all night it was down to a 439mv reading.  Gain you ask?  -> hot - 2.2v , cool - 1.2v

Can anyone tell me that my very expensive transitors are OK?
