plexi in a box?

is there anything that can give you the plexi sound without actually buying a plexi? i've seen some pedals saying that they have a plexi sound but i've never tried them.. any suggestions...?

No. Buy a plexi. No pedal will move air. The things a dimed plexi does can not be duplicated.

That said, lots of pedals and simulators do a decent simulation. I personally like the way a Distortion+ with Ge diodes into a cranked tube amp sounds, but it still ain't no plexi, unless of course, it is one.

Well if you'd looked at RG's picture closer you will see that the TS-9 HAS to be a black label one for this to work :-)

I think the 2 mini-booster circuits in Aron's "Booster 2.5" family do a pretty good job. B2.5, Sweet Thing, Brown Sound in a Box are all good candidates for a high-gain plexi sound.

Then again, it depends on what kind of plexi sound you are after I suppose. These have pretty high gain, though not "metal". No, nothing in a box is going to sound exactly like the real thing, but these circuits have a nice feel and tone to them.

I agree with Doug, you can't beat JFETs for that "tube type sound"
 J201's seem to be the prefered JFET of choice, many others sound good but might not yield as much gain.
