I made 2 little gem's for my friend's chrismas gifts and they loved them. Thank you to run off groove for supplying the plans.

I am wanting to make a little gem 2 will it work with a 12v supply?
If not does anyone know of where i can find a schematic for a 12v>9v converter circut?

thanks
Scott

Yes, a little gem MKII will work with 12 volts.

If memory serves me correctly, there are LM386 IC's out there that will easily take 18vdc for V+. So you could make an even louder sound if you managed to get it 18v (maybe two 9v batteries in series ;) ). Then again wallwarts @ 18vdc shouldn't be too hard to get ;)
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

Here:

    Battery operation
    Minimum external parts
Wide supply voltage range: 4V-12V or 5V-18V
    Low quiescent current drain: 4mA
Voltage gains from 20 to 200
    Ground referenced input
    Self-centering output quiescent voltage
    Low distortion: 0.2% (AV = 20, VS = 6V, RL = 8Ohm, PO = 125mW, f = 1kHz)
Available in 8 pin MSOP package
    [/list:u]

    That's national semiconductor's LM 386 specs ;)

does anyone have any recomendations on which transistor to use?
im working on a portable 2 channel busker amp for my friends. I plan on using 2 6v lantern batteries but my box has room for three to step it up to 18V thanks for the good ideas ben.

J201, MPF102, 2N5457 will all work fine in the buffer.
