I'm visiting the States in a couple of days and want to get some of this magic solder, cuz I hear it has "mojority"*.
I've had no joy trying finding it here in the UK. In two days I'll be in So. Cal once again basking in the gold and purple glow of my beloved Lakers. Any idea where to pick some of this stuff up? I think Rat Shack has it, but is there any mail order places etc. that are better?

Thanks guys,
Bill

My condolences on your visit to Southern California. (...that's what us Northern Californians say at least. ;))

RadioSlack generally has poor deals on consumables like solder so I would suggest Fry's Electronics which is like a nerd supermarket gone absolutely mad. They will probably have the mojority of your electronics, personal care, and junkfood needs apart from vintage things such as Ge transistors.

Another option would be ordering form an outfit like http://www.circuitspecialists.com . If you're going to be in the States long enough, it should be quite easy to get a shipment to where you're staying. Circuit Specialists is in the next state over. Give them an e-mail or telephone. You want part number RH63-1 ($6.95) http://www.circuitspecialists.com/prod.itml/icOid/6262

If you've never had the experience, you should go to Fry's anyway.... or perhaps two stores if you pass them, or three..... Each one is different.

Take care and bon voyage!,

Thanks Peter. I grew up in So. Cal and use to live about fifteen minutes from a Frye's. I would go at least a couple times a month. Usually when I felt strong enough to take the abuse.   I remember it was a store unlike any other, customer satisfaction was not high on their priority list. Kind of like many of the stores here in England. Whenever I get back to the States I always seem to end up in that Frye's at least once. So I'll check them out for the solder. I need to get a couple of years worth so I do need to get some kind of quantity.

I don't blame you for being proud of Northern California, it is beautiful up there. My favorite place on earth is Yosemite, I've been there many times and it never ceases to take my breath away. You even have a good NBA team now, of course being a Laker fan I shouldn't be saying that! Strike that from the record!

Thanks again,
Bill
