I've been given a Small Stone (issue J) by a friend of mine for repair. He also gave me a Big Muff Pi (version II) to fix also. Fixed the Muff. Man, it sounds good. Anyway, about the Small Stone:
It only acts as a tremolo right now. (Attn: Mark Hammer, it is indeed just the volume going up and down. No swirling of any sort.) Actually sounds like a pretty good tremolo pedal. Does that tell any of you folks anything about what the problem might be? Could it be the tranny's? I've confirmed that it is wired correctly. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Greg

Are the traces on the PCB OK? Also, maybe the IC's aren't getting the right voltages at the right places. Measure them and I'm sure that Mark can tell you more ;)
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

One of your stages are misfunctioning.  Check the caps for each stage, then check the chips.
