keep in mind i am a novice as well. were you carefull not to screw with the  trim pot while installing your switch?did you check the battery(its always the simple things i overlook)what kind of switch did you install dpdt or a 3pdt? this site has a simple layout that shows clearly how to hook up a dpdt.(youll have to copy and paste past ive not figured out how to post links yet)
