I have the Crain Anderton preamp schem, which is fairly easily adapted to bass, but anyone have a more modern one?

MarkB

How about a clone of an Acoustic 360?
Charlie (moosapotamus) and JC have them on their sites..
Moose's site is down right now, so try JC's.. (lemme find the link..)
ok - found it.

yeah id second the acoustic 360....it looks like a big build but if you actually do it it isnt that bad and it is totally worth it...best pedal ive built yet.  i noticed jc dropped a bunch of the info on his circuit which i find sad...maybe he just moved it and i cant find it or something or if you ask him he'll send you more...  jcs main trick was the eic circuit to replace the inductor and adding an opamp stage on the end, charlie had an awesome idea for a blend pot that works perfect and neccessary for bass.  i got a few tricks up my sleeve that i did myself too, im gone this weekend but drop me an email if you are interested ill give you what i have prepared.

Have a look at this one too:

It looks promising anyway. I'd like to build one sometime.

Sheesh... Thanks, Mark! All better now. 8)

Yup, the 360+ is great!

I've always wanted to try this one, too...

Where is the 360 layout that was up?  It's been away for a while.  Charlie?  Any ideas?   I was wanting to try my hand at that one.

Moose's site is back up, but the layout isn't there anymore (I think it was on JC's site and he took it down?)

Perhaps one of them will chime in here - I may have the layout somewhere around.. there were 2 versions, actually - I'll look.

my band's bassist built the mr. Kreuzer's preamp and he's using it with 500w or something brutally linear poweramp :) and a 2x15 home made cab with RCF speakers 100db effectivness...

this thing (preamp) is GREAT, he's playing a yamaha 5 string (passive pickups) and can get tones from tool to i dunno... bassman type mooshy sound, it's a great preamp really balanced and every tone is pronounced really nice, has a treshold wich acts like some kind of limiter and does it's job excellent...

after playing at home with this rig we haven't found any other bass amp sounding this good... trace elliots, fenders.. none of them come close to this build...

altough it has much to do with a really linear pow amp and excellent speakers...
when you hit a note, it's a NOTE and muffled tonk with lots of overtones.. every fret on a fingerboard sounds really clean and pronounced.

excellent design! :)

It's good to hear from someone who has built the Kreuzer preamp. I'm very interested in this design and I'll probably make one for my studio soon.

Charlie..
did you ever test/build that mini layout you drew up?

Thanks for the help guys, I am going to give that Kreuzer schem a try I think, now that I am on spring break. Give me something to do with my time. I am worried that the PCB wont fit in the cavity though, so I may need to perfboard it to shrink it.

MarkB

That thing has more controls than the 360+, which fits in a DD enclosure (which even then - it's not exactly roomy)..
I'd think the Kruezer would want at least a 1/2-rack sized box..  maybe a DD.
Good luck with it - let us know how it goes!

:?: :!:

I dunno if this will interest you any but, I came up with a modified form of the Gibson G100B bass preamp/fuzz circuit a few years ago, it's got a cool dual-stage starved FET clipping section and also, the chopped G100B preamp can benefit from the use of a NE5532 output driver/buffer stage, which is good for maintaining top end fidelity over a variety of power-amp loads - similar in function as in the 360+ ... I'll post this version as soon as I get back online ...

ps. if anyone is trying to contact me by email I'll still be unreachable until later next week - toutes mes excuses !!

I'm in the slough process of moddifying my site ... I'll put back the 360+ things that went missing and include Charlie's Fuzz-Mix Mod he sent way back ...

... peaceful doubt

Hey JC,
I'd love to see that schem of the modded gibson preamp...
Could you send it to me? Please.

Thank you very much!

You know, Albert has an onboard version of that preamp...
