Hi i am building an effect, tec octavia, fuzz and univibe in the same box, the octavia and fuzz run off of 9 volts dc, can i use a 10 volt reg? i have an extra one and was wondering if the circut could handle it.
thanks

Probably it will be OK. But I say get a 9v regulator... they're not that expensive are they? Plus, you now don't have to deal with any unforseen circumstances that might crop up @ 10v. Mind you it probably won't make a difference.... hmmm :?
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

no problem!!!

you can have 9v if you put a condenser in the input (470 uF) and the output of 7809 (220 uF)plus a cap. of .1uF....

you should have 9 Vdc...

but no problem... maybe you have a sound more fuzzy with 10 Vdc, never more...

Hi Joe,

I believe 10 volts will work just fine. A fresh battery is 9.4 volts anyway. In many overdrive circuits actually it will get a bit cleaner as there is more headroom before it clips. However, it may not be noticeable. You could put a few diodes or a resistor in series to drop the voltage down. I would then put a 40 to 220 uF cap to ground.

You could build a regulator or capacitance multiplier. I would not use a standard 3 pin regulator as they need a 3 volt drop to perform their job cleanly. If you used a 12 volt wall wart then a regulator would work great, but it’s not really need for guitar effects.

Will
