How do I go about adding an LED to my Home Build Pedals? Do I need to use one of the Melenium Circuits?

Thanks,
Scott

not if you've got a spare pole on your switch... otherwise you may need the millenium bypass.

there's heaps of info about this already here.  Check the FAQ

Thanks! I forgot to look there!

Are there any diagrams for hooking up a 3PDT switch for True Bypass and LED? Also, How do I choose an LED and Resistor to work it properly?

Thanks!

Well... nothing says "true bypass" like a hard wired switch to select between clean and effected signals.

To add an LED, use a spare pole of your switch to connect the LED and resistor to the supply when the effect is on.

LED's require different currents depending on the LED.  I generally run most LEDs at or around 10mA.

So, assuming you're using 9VDC supply, you get roughly 10mA by using a 900ohm resistor.  Try an 820 ohm or a 1kohm.  Note that the switch shown is SPST.  To use a DP simply leave the unused pin unconnected.

Use ohms law to find this;  volts = current * resistance.  rearrange as required.

There are some diagrams listed "Offboard Wiring" at tonepad.com.  Five different ways to hook up switches, etc.--some with LEDs.

Oh yeah!

There is a forum created for beginners. It's called the "Beginner Project". In there you will find answers to a lot of questions that a beginner will ask including how a 3PDT switch works and how to hook a circuit up to a 3PDT for true bypass and LED.

In addition, there is a DIY FAQ, GEO FAQ, along with the FAQ Forum and finally a Search function on the top of the forum.

Happy searching!  :)
