Poll: Common values of resistors to stock up on??

I'm just getting into diy effects and I want to get the best bang-for-buck on resistors, but I can't justify spending $50 on resistors, many of which I might not use... so what values are REALLY common?

I started with the Rat Shack 500 resistor assortment and stocked my bench with those values.... it seems to cover all the bases. When I start getting low on certain values, I might stock up on just those, or else buy another Rat Shack Pack.

The ones I run out of first seem to be things like 100K, 10K, 4.7K, 47K, 1K, 1.5K, 220K....

I have 10ohm  to 1M, in the E12 range (10, 12, 15, 18, 22, 27, 33, 39, 47, 56, 68, 82) so I'll never miss one. But the E6 (10, 15, 22, 33, 47, 68 ) range is very nice for a start, also resistor under 100 are less often used.

Whenever I need a resistor value I don't have "stocked" I go and buy 10 pieces, I'd say I have around 30 small bags of different values by now.

1K, 3K, 10K, 33K, 100K, 1Meg is a good start, they seem to be used very often.

And remember Murphy's Law:
If a project requires n units, there will be n-1 units in stock. :lol:

You can not avoid to have components that you dont need

Resistors are cheap compared to caps and semiconductors

When you are in a hurry designing something and tweaking it to work like you want you need a good selection of resistors, really. If you dont have what you need just in time you might not have time or remember what to do later

You can avoid to have less components that you dont need by keeping your components in order, sort your things

You can save money if you can find suitable big sortiment or surplus batch
