I am attempting to mod my reissue Dyna Comp to Ross specs and I was wondering which pair of transistors is it better to have matched. I believe somebody told me it was the ones in the output section. Would this be Q4 and Q5?

Thank you.

The transistors you have in there now will be fine. Don't bother changing them out.

Are they as good or better than the original 2SC1849's? I happened to come across several of these and was wanting to put them to good use. If I will not notice a difference or the effect will sound worse, I definitely don't want to bother with them. I believe MPS-18's are in there stock if I remember correctly.

Thanks.

Those are the original transistors. I'm sure a case can be made for using them for true "authenticity" but of the five transistors, only two are in the audio path. These two in the audio path are set up as emitter follower buffers, they are not applying gain, so the chances of hearing the difference between them or another type are minimal.

Questions about the Ross transistors come up a lot and IMO there is no need to worry about them.
